Alright Chaos Army…

Some days the show prep just writes itself, and today was one of those days where the stories and little moments all seemed to circle around the same idea — the small stuff we do matters more than we think. Funny how that happens.

REASON TO PARTY

Johnny Appleseed Day, and honestly that one felt perfect for the Rock King moment. The real Johnny Appleseed, John Chapman, spent the late 1700s and early 1800s wandering across the frontier planting apple nurseries across places like Ohio and Indiana. The legend says he walked around barefoot with a cooking pot on his head like a hat, which might be the most rock-and-roll pioneer image ever created.

But the real story behind the legend is even cooler.

Those apple trees helped settlers establish farms and communities across the frontier. One guy walking miles across the wilderness planting seeds ended up helping shape entire regions of the country.

That’s the kind of story that sticks with you for a minute.

Sometimes the small seeds you plant today turn into something way bigger than you ever expected.

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

If you’ve ever had a cough that just refuses to leave after a cold, doctors say there’s a lesser-known remedy that might help faster than you’d expect: marshmallow root extract.

Not the marshmallows you roast at a campfire — this is an herb that’s been used medicinally for centuries. The root contains a gel-like substance that coats the throat, easing irritation and calming dry coughs. Studies suggest it can start working in about 10 minutes, which makes it handy before meetings or bedtime.

It’s not a cure-all though, and doctors say to check with a physician if symptoms last longer than three weeks or come with other issues.

Some other cough-soothing options people swear by include:

• Honey
• Pineapple juice
• Warm saltwater gargles
• Licorice root tea
• Warm water with honey or bone broth

BIG SCREEN – LITTLE SCREEN

Pop star Britney Spears reportedly had a run-in with the law this week after being arrested for a DUI in Ventura County, California. According to reports, the arrest happened around 9:30 PM and she was booked early the next morning before being released a few hours later. The incident comes shortly after Spears was granted a permanent restraining order against a man who allegedly showed up at her home after posting disturbing messages online.

Meanwhile, some nostalgia is headed to the Academy Awards stage this year.

“When Harry Met Sally” co-stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan will reunite during the Oscars to honor director Rob Reiner during the In Memoriam segment. There’s also talk that Barbra Streisand may perform in tribute to her “The Way We Were” co-star Robert Redford. The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will take place on March 15.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know some birds can actually sleep while flying?

Species like the frigatebird can rest one half of their brain at a time. This allows them to stay airborne for days without ever landing.

Nature is wild.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

If insomnia hits and your brain refuses to shut down, experts say a simple trick called the Infinity Tracing Technique might help calm things down.

The idea is simple: slowly trace a sideways figure eight (the infinity symbol) in the air with your finger while following the shape with your eyes. That slow, rhythmic eye movement can help calm the nervous system by activating balance and spatial-awareness systems in the brain.

It’s actually similar to techniques used in EMDR therapy.

The predictable movement can help quiet racing thoughts and guide your brain toward relaxation… and hopefully a little sleep.

NEWS TO ME

Some quick fun facts to make you sound smarter at lunch:

• Kangaroos cool themselves off by licking their forearms.
• A baby puffin is called a puffling.
• The tallest mountain in our solar system is Olympus Mons on Mars, nearly three times taller than Mount Everest.
• If you buy a lottery ticket on Monday, you’re about 100 times more likely to die before the Wednesday drawing than win the jackpot.
• In 1900, the two most popular reading materials in North America were The Bible and the Sears catalog.

WEIRD NEWS

A trip through a Pennsylvania car wash turned into an unexpected adventure when a woman found herself trapped inside the wash cycle for nearly an hour.

Felicia Sullivan shared the experience on TikTok after the machine shut down mid-wash with her car still covered in soap. The emergency button inside didn’t work, and attempts to get someone’s attention failed.

Eventually she called the police, who arrived with the owner and helped get her out about 45 minutes later. Thankfully neither she nor her car were harmed — and the owner made it right with a stack of gift cards.

Still… that’s a long time to sit in a bubble bath you didn’t ask for.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Regarding Daylight Saving Time, about 3% of people fall into this category, What is it?.

Answer: They have clocks they never get around to changing.

Honestly… that might be the most relatable statistic of the week.

THE LIST

An “aptronym” is when someone’s name perfectly matches what they do. And some of these are too good not to share.

• Dana Strum – Bassist for Slaughter and Ozzy Osbourne
• Colin Bass – Bassist for Camel

Sometimes life really does write the punchline.

THINGS I DIDN’T SAY ON THE AIR

The Johnny Appleseed story stuck with me today.

One guy walked across the frontier planting trees. He probably never saw most of them grow. But those seeds ended up feeding families, building towns, and leaving a mark long after he was gone.

That’s a pretty solid reminder for all of us.

You never really know which small thing you do today might grow into something big tomorrow.

Plant the good stuff.

See you on the next show.
